LISN: Patients Empowering Patients

Developing resources for liver patients and their carers who are on the transplant journey.

Feeling understood during the most challenging times can make all the difference. At LISN, we believe in the transformative power of patients supporting patients. Our organisation is led by individuals who have each undergone a liver transplant themselves, giving us a unique understanding of the transplantation journey. Through our shared experiences, we recognise the critical role that peer support plays in the journey toward wellness.

On April 20th, 2024, LISN was born, coinciding with Organ Donation Awareness Week—a cause deeply personal to each member of our committee. Many of us owe our lives to the selflessness of organ donors and their families. As we celebrate our launch, we urge you to have the important conversation with your loved ones about organ donation.

By completing and sharing the quick online link to become a donor, you can help save lives and bring hope to those in need. Together let’s make a difference.

Remembering our Co-Founder, and Chairman, Brendan McAtamney

It is with a sorrowful heart that we announce the passing of our Co-Founder and Chairman, Brendan McAtamney, who died peacefully on Saturday, 21st December 2024, at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, following an illness bravely fought.

Brendan is survived by his beloved wife Caroline, his four children Eoin, Aoife, Éanna and Aisling, his cherished grandchildren Cora, Leo and Amaya, his mother Kathleen, brothers Martin and Kieran, sister Anne, extended family, and a vast circle of friends and colleagues. We extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to Brendan’s family and all who mourn his immeasurable loss.

Brendan’s vision, leadership and rigour enabled LISN to be established and fully operational within just nine months of his liver transplant – an extraordinary achievement that reflected both his determination and his remarkable ability to bring people together with purpose. His commitment, generosity and unwavering belief in patient-centred support are the bedrock upon which LISN was built.
